(Re)Searching The Digital Bauhaus
Interaction design entered the scene of design as computer scientists and engineers realized that technology is a design material rather than a neutral set of tools and machinery supporting life at work or at home. Since then, interaction designers have been actively involved in exploring new design concepts for anything from interactive websites to intelligent everyday spaces. Interaction design is even gaining prominence in areas such as service design and product design as it is becoming more evident that the old-school design emphasis on static form tends to neglect how things live in interaction with people. But where does interaction design come from and what foundations are relevant today? In this book, a group of authors ranging from the founders of the field to currently influential shapers of education and research provide their interpretation of experiences and challenges. The starting point for the authors is a re-capitulation of the call for a digital Bauhaus originally issued by Pelle Ehn in 1998. Then as now, the Bauhaus ambition is to re-align new technology with emerging social needs. But unlike the avant-garde thinking of the 1920-30s Bauhaus, the authors in this volume are advocating a strong sensitivity to participation and the indigenous creativity of the modern social fabric. The book offers its readers a broad view on the origins and foundations of the field of interaction design and identifies thought-provoking challenges facing interaction design today.
.NET Wireless Programming
Microsoft's .NET strategy embraces a vision for integrating diverse elements of computing technology and data services. The wireless Internet and mobile devices are core components of that strategy. Visual Studio .NET includes a powerful set of toolsthe Mobile Internet Toolkitfor developing websites and applications that can be accessed from all kinds of mobile devices .NET Wireless Programming provides the technical details you need to master to develop end-to-end wireless solutions based on .NET technology. You'll learn to take advantage of the Mobile Internet Toolkit's automated deployment capabilities, which enable a single site or application to work with nearly any mobile device. Freed from the task of writing code to accommodate various devices, you'll be able to apply other skills to build a more powerful application: Work with styles and templates. Create custom controls. Read from and write to databases. And use Microsoft's Web Services in support of a distributed architecture. Five case studies, including a mobile intranet, a contacts database, and an online game, illustrate solutions to real problems and techniques for maximizing application flexibility. A set of appendices provide detailed information on the WML language and the Toolkit's classes. This book presents its many code examples in Visual Basic .NET, but the greater emphasis is on Visual Studio .NET and the flexibility it gives developers in choosing the language they want to use.

3C Vision
The exponential explosion of images and videos concerns everybody's common life, since this media is now present everywhere and in all human activities. Scientists, artists and engineers, in any field, need to be aware of the basic mechanisms that allow them to understand how images are essentially information carriers. Images bear a strong evocative power, because their perception quickly brings into mind a number of related pictorial contents of past experiences, and even of abstract concepts like pleasure, attraction or aversion. This book analyzes the visual hints, thanks to which, images are generally interpreted, processed and exploited, both by humans and computer programs. Comprehensive introductory text Introduces the reader to the large world of imagery on which many human activities are based, from politics to entertainment, from technical reports to artistic creations Provides a unified framework where both biological and artificial vision are discussed through visual cues, through the role of contexts and the available multi-channels to deliver information
